What is online marketing for voiceover artists anyway?

Online marketing consists of a variety of methods you can use to achieve your purposes. How and which type of marketing approach you choose will depend on your overall aim. Another important point is that if you are serious about developing your presence online, you need your website. There is no replacement for having a site and domain that you manage and can use to build your brand – it’s the hub, and the spokes are the other sites that you connect to, including social media. Now let’s take an overview of the core parts of online marketing for voiceover artists, and I’ll give you some ideas that I hope are helpful.

Search marketing is about looking for a unique set of keywords.

So Apple for “Laptops” (and other products), Interflora wants to be found for the keyword “Florist,”  etc.

Now you cannot and will not rank for “voiceover actor”. That term is too general and is used by hundreds of others. But you may want to direct a keyword such as “voiceover artist for audiobooks” or even more particular “voiceover actor for sci-fi audiobooks” and then list out the different types of other book genres.

An example of how keywords help you get found is this: I typed into Google “linked” and “voiceover” in the Google results I got a list of the top 20 profiles with those terms. The people listed have made sure that they have optimized their LinkedIn profile for search. LinkedIn is used by companies globally to find talent.

2. Online PR

Now picture that you want to get your name out there. What could you do for getting your name noticed? Well, using the journalists/press and getting published in a magazine (online not offline) that is read by your target audience may help.

This will depend on the strategy you choose and might not be the essential form of marketing for voiceover artists. If you’re going to develop a presence across social media, blog, be creative, and use the full arsenal of online tools to market yourself. Then email marketing can be a powerful method to sell your brand.

You might (over the years) collect a list of customers, and you might have a list of people from your blog.

The key to success is having a purpose and being relevant to your audience. So don’t spam people by shouting about your latest piece of work. It’s unlikely to make anything different than ending up on an email blacklist. However, if you send out a random email that adds value to their business, you’ll get your emails to read and more than likely comments and interactions with people – the art is to be productive and research a problem they may be facing.
